There's a strange cold breeze that has come through the valley of Utah County. Seemingly moderate temperatures of 70 degree days have turned to a more frigid 40 degree high. Is this the winter that people spoke of? It wasn't this cold in L.A. It wasn't this cold in Brasil.
Why do I write about the weather? I just sound like a namby-pamby city boy.
Since I never get my name in the paper with what I do, some friends pointed me to a website newspagedeisgner.com. On the site, you are able to upload images of pages you have designed, as well as look over the designs of others in the news industry. While the design aspect of my pages is not very intricate, when I put together a page that is worth looking at, I'll upload it to my portfolio on newspagedesigner.com.
It is interesting to see the evolution of my news-page design and how strikingly similar the pages are. The finished product looks similar but each building process undergoes so many redesigns and story re-arranging that it doesn't feel the same everyday.
My co-workers have formed an interesting sister-like bond with me. IT may be due to the fact that we all go to church, or they are all married, or I say every few days, "How much colder is it actually going to get in Utah in the winter time?"
I'm still holding out hope that I will be able to transfer to a writing/photography position within the paper within the next 8 months. Sadly, I'm good enough as a copy editor that I don't imagine the editorial staff being too happy that I would move.
Nanowrimo starts in November. I think I may take a short story from my creative writing class last semester and run with it and turn it into a novel. I have tons more time this year. I'm sure I could manage 2,000 words a day.

I managed to swing a deal on craigslist for a used snowboard. I still have to buy boots and take this board in for a tune-up. But I am excited that soon, my winter mornings will be spent on a snowy mountain.
