Taking advantage of the pollen

Spring is in full bloom in Bakersfield, and you can tell by the number of times we’ve sneezed today alone.

From left: Bougainvillea (planted 2009), two Heirloom tomato plants with wire cages, bell pepper, jalapeno, the rectangle box has cilantro and red Fresno Chiles.

The heat feels nice after a cold wet winter. The water is doing wonders for the greenery in and around the city.  A half-hour drive in any direction leaves you in rolling green hills rather than barren desert.

Fuscia

Fuscia, planted in a hanging planter is already blooming.

Now I’ve decided to try and plant again, during the right months this time. It isn’t as easy to plant a vegetable garden without a yard or garden area, but the pots do well enough for flowers.

I may have made a mistake with Jalapeno. I usually only see them in jars so this pot may not be big enough to handle the roots of three jalapeno plants.

Judging by the theme, you may realize that I’ve got salsa on the mind. I’ll take pictures of the whole process if it works out well. Not pictured here in our garden are our two Hibiscus plants and one Gardenia — none of which are flowering right now.
